African American Authors You Should Read in 2018

February is Black History month. While it's great to dedicate one month to celebrate African American history and culture, it's something we should be doing all year long. While everyone should read Zora Neale Hurston, James Baldwin and other classic African American authors, there are so many Black authors that are publishing books now. This really is a testament to many people recognizing that we need more authors and characters of color in American culture. The first step is acceptance people. BookTuber Denise D. Cooper started #readingblackout, where she challenged herself and others to read only African American authors for all of 2018. #readsoullit also challenges readers to read only Black authors for the month of February. Whats on my Nightstand: January’s Reads

Whenever you're in a job interview, they always ask you what is your biggest weakness. The prospective employer basically wants to know your worst character trait. One thing always comes to my mind when asked that question: organization. Now, I'm not dumb. I don't say that in an interview. I say something that sounds like it could be a negative character trait, but it's really not; like I care too much about my job or something like that. However, organization has always been my biggest weakness. At any given moment, I have about a million thoughts swimming around in my head. It doesn't matter what's going on in my life, it always feels like I have a ton of things I could or should be doing at any given moment. Beating Winter: What’s Saving My Life Right Now

Congratulations! You've made it to February! We are officially at the half-way point of winter. Yes, I know, it feels muuuuuch longer than just half way. But don't worry, if you live anywhere besides Minnesota, spring is just around the corner. If you do live in Minnesota, I suggest a vacation to someplace tropical, because you still have about four months left of winter. Every year, Modern Mrs. Darcy commemorates this milestone by celebrating the little things in life that make us happy right now. In the midst of winter, it's easy to get caught up in all the things that make life difficult. Seldom do I stop and think about all of the little things that make life fabulous. Of course, I have some big things in life that really keep me going; baby snuggles are at the top of the list.
